ATOMIZED CITY (1985)

I walk through the crowd looking their chilly eyes

the atomized city is strolling my mind

I hear the echo of promotional sales

from central megaphones that ever hammer at us.

The air is so acid and it burns my lungs

today a new boil is born on my face

but I’ve seen people who had thirty of them

after all the computer doctor say that’s OK.

I don’t remember when all this started

d’you know, it was a very gradual think

and nobody thought it could ever happen.

No trees, no green in this aseptic land

only cement in a thick and grey sky

but if you buy the new cleansing

the sun will shine in your dishes like never before.

I envy the families who live on the satellites

they have good water and genuine food

they tell us what is right to do

and they control that all proceeds for the best.

LA CITTA' ATOMIZZATA

Cammino tra la folla osservando i loro occhi gelidi

la città atomizzata sta passeggiando nella mia mente

ascolto l’eco delle vendite promozionali

da megafoni centrali che di continuo ci martellano.

L’aria è così acida e brucia i miei polmoni

oggi un nuovo foruncolo è nato sul mio viso

ma ho visto gente che ne aveva almeno trenta

dopo tutto il medico computerizzato dice che è normale.

Non ricordo quando tutto ciò è cominciato

sai, è stata una cosa molto graduale

e nessuno pensava potesse realmente accadere.

Non ci sono alberi, né verde in questo mondo asettico

solo cemento in un cielo spesso e grigio

ma se compri il nuovo detersivo

il sole brillerà nei tuoi piatti come mai prima.

Invidio le famiglie che vivono sui satelliti

hanno acqua buona e cibo genuino

ci dicono cosa è giusto fare

e controllano che tutto proceda per il meglio.
